RATE COLLECTIONS
POSITION IN MASTERTON COUNTY. RECEIPTS AT DISCOUNT DATE. At discount date, January 27, 1939, the Masterton County Council collected 98.1 per cent of the current year’s rates as compared with 97.4 per cent for 1937-38.
Rates levied totalled £25,943 19s 2d and the amount collected, less the 5 per cent discount allowed, amounted to £24,953 Is Id, leaving an amount of £483 19s Id outstanding.
The position in the various ridings was as follows, the first set of figures representing the amount levied and the second set the amount collected:— Opaki Riding: £4969 13s 3d, £4783 16s 6d; Rangitumau Riding: £4365 12s lid, £4136 14s 8d; Upper Taueru Riding: £3,078 16s 3d, £3019 12s sd; Te Whiti Riding: £3563 14s 9d, £3428 6s 3d; Uriti Riding: £5279 3s lid; £5045 16s sd; Wainuioru Riding: £4686 18s Id; £4538' 14s lOd. At discount date for 1936-37, 96.87 per cent of the rates were collected.
