MOTOR CYCLING

MASTERTON CLUB NOTES

(By

“Mulligan.”)

Splendid support has been given recently to the Masterton Motor Cycle Sports Club runs, the result of requests made to members. Drawbacks which the club experienced have now been overcome. There are two runs to comment upon this time, so I will start with the picnic at that delightful spot on the Moonshine Road which has no official name, and therefore will call it "The Secret Anchor” (the name derived from the nature of the run, the finding of a so-called anchor on the bed of the river). The Club left Masterton at 10 a.m. on Sunday, January 22 and only the leader (Mr Allan Mackay) knew.the destination. The manner in which he led them along false trails and making various detours had everybody thinking right up to the arrival at “The Secret. Anchor.” The biggest thrill of the day was when the events were just finishing, and the Law was seen coming across the paddock in a car. The fear was quite uncalled for, however, because the policeman was only looking for an offender was was not with us, naturally. Swimming was indulged in and the Club played baseball with a Wellington baseball team, but I won’t tell you who won. The Club’s best wishes were extended to Miss Agnes Bannister who is leaving to take up her residence in Auckland. The day was proclaimed by all a perfect success.

The swimming trip to Titahi Bay was well attended by members and friends, and most of us started a new week with much pain, due to the sunburn received. After lunch the Club proceeded to Wellington under the leadership of the vice-captain (Mr Ken McMullen), where the site of Aitken Street fire was visited.
