PERSONAL

The Hon R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, left Wellington for the South Island by aeroplane yesterday.

Mr R. F. Lewis, son of Mr and Mrs J W Lewis, Chapel Street, Masterton, has accepted a position in the science laboratory at Victoria College, Wellington.

Appointments to teaching positions in schools in its district have been made by the Wellington Education Board as follows: —Mr J. D. Bedingfield, sole teacher, Awatoitoi. Mr R. C Lamb, sole teacher, Kaituna. Mr N. Green, sole teacher. Matahiwi. Miss M. I. Ross, infant mistress, Eketahuna, from Rongokokako.

Father Carmine, of Carterton, who, it was recently reported, had been transferred to Foxton, has received further word that his appointment to that place has been cancelled, and he is now to go to Pungarehu, near Mount Egmont, taking the place of Dr Kelly, who recently passed to his long rest. Father Heavey, also of Carterton, has also received notice of his transfer to New Plymouth. Father Devlin has taken over the charge of the Carterton Parish. Senior appointments in the Treasury Department following the promotion of the assistant secretary and accountant, Mr B. C. Ashwin, to the position of Secretary to the Treasury, are as follows: —Mr G. G. Rose has been appointed assistant secretary and Treasury solicitor. The chief investigating officer, Mr E. L. Greensmith, has been appointed second assistant secretary. The assistant accountant, Dr A. R. F. Mackay, has been appointed accountant, and Mr R. M. Sunley, who is at present attached to the High Commissioner’s office as finance officer, will return to New Zealand to take up the position of assistant accountant on completion in the near future of his term of service in London. Mr C. J. R. Atkin has been appointed chief investigating officer.
