SYDNEY SALES.
IMPROVEMENT MAINTAINED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, February 6. At the Sydney wool sales today 10.932 bales were offered, 10,254 being sold at auction; also 404 bales were sold privately. The improvement in the market reported on Thursday was fully maintained. In the case of all well-grown wools prices ruled from par to 5 per cent higher, comebacks and crossbreds sharing the improvement, and meeting a particularly strong demand, especially from Japan. Competition was well distributed. A line of greasy merino sold to Is Gd.
The average price of the wool sold last week was £l2 16s 8d a bale, or IOJd a lb. AUCKLAND CHEQUE, DISTRIBUTION TODAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February G. Woolgrowers throughout the Auckland province will benefit by the distribution tomorrow of a sum estimated at about 245,000 on account of the second Auckland sale, held on January 24. This compared with a cheque of £339,896 from the first Auckland fixture of the season and £397.262 from the corresponding auction last year.
