SUCCESSFUL GATHERING

EKETAHUNA SWIMMING CARNIVAL. KEEN CONTESTS ON SATURDAY. ("Times-Age” Special.) . The Eketahuna Amateur Swimming Club held a most successful carnival ai the town baths on Saturday. The weather was beautifully fine and there was a large attendance of the public, who witnessed an excellent day’s sport. Splendid entries were received from all parts of the Wellington province and competition throughout was keen and interesting. A number of Masterton swimmers competed. The officials of the club had all the arrangements well in hand and the lengthy programme was dispatched with a minimum of delay. The results of the finals were as follow:

Bush Primary Schools’ Handicap: Miss D. Boustead, 1; Miss S. Walton, 2: Miss D. McLellan, 3. Time, 24 2-ssec. Junior Girls’ 25yds Handicap: Miss A. Stains, 1; Miss D. Boustead, 2; Miss' N. Stains, 3. Time, 23 3-ssec.

Junior Boys' 25yds Handicap: D Fraser, 1; E. Staples, 2; Watts, 3. Time. 19secs.

Men’s 50yds Handicap: J. Tredray, 1: Robbie, 2; Pearson, 3. Time, 30 l-ssec. Ladies’ 50yds Handicap: Miss N. Spiers, 1; Miss D. Boustead. 2; Miss McLellan, 3. Time, 29 4-ssec. Manawatu Centre 220yds Championship: A. Taylor (Dannevirke). 1; J. Barnes (Masterton), 2. Time, 3min, 42 sec. The only competitors.

100yds Breaststroke Handicap: G. Gaze, 1; Lusk, 2; F. Milne, 3. Time, 91 2-ssec.

Boys' and Girls’ 75yds Handicap: Frazer, 1; Staples, 2; Watts, 3. Time, 19 sec.

Ladies’ Dive: Miss Wills, 1; Miss McQueen. 2; Miss Spiers, 3.

Boys’ Dive: Staples, 1: Hollings, 2; Sexton, 3. Girls’ Dive: Miss N. Stains, 1: Miss Boustead. 2.

Men’s Dive: McKegg, 1; Braggins, 2 Tredray, 3.

Men’s inter-club relay race: Eketahuna A, 1; Eketahuna. B, 2.

An inter-club cup for a water polo contest was won by Dannevirke, who defeated Eketahuna, 3/1. It was the first contest of the series.
