SWIMMING
MASTERTON CLUB.
EVENTS FOR TOMORROW.
Tomorrow evening at the Dixon Street Baths the club will continue its programme with a further series of races, and as this will be the last club evening before the carnival, particular interest will attach to competitors’ efforts. At the Eketahuna Carnival on Saturday afternoon Masterton swimmers were prominent competitors and some of the younger members present who were not actual placegetters will benefit by the experience gained. It was particularly noticeable that the young divers more than held their own with visitors from larger centres, their form and general deportment comparing favourably with the older divers. The following is the programme for tomorrow evening:—2syds junior girls’ free style handicap; 50 yards junior boys free style handicap; 25 yards intermediate girls’ free style handicap; 75 yards intermediate boys’ free style handicap; 50 yards ladies’ free style handicap; 50 yards men’s free style handicap; 220 yards men’s free style handicap; 100 yards open breaststroke handicap; 150 yards open backstroke handicap; 25 yards junior girls’ breaststroke • handicap; 25 yards junior boys’ breaststroke handicap; 50 yards intermediate breaststroke handicap; 100 yards open relay handicap (teams of 4); girls, boys, ladies and men’s diving; compulsory dive, backward spring, forward dive with pike. Greytown Carnival. Masterton competitors who will take part in the Greytown Swimming Carnival tonight will leave by bus from the Post Office at 6.30 o’clock this evening.
LEARN TO SWIM CAMPAIGN. LOCAL CLUB’S EFFORT. The “learn to swim” campaign is producing increased interest among the public in swimming, and the Masterton Amateur Swimming Club will further this healthy sport by holding a carnival at the Dixon Street Baths next Saturday night. The club members have worked hard, and are still working, to ensure that this carnival will be the best that has ever been held in the district. Entries for the carnival have been received from Lower Hutt; Petone, Greytown, Carterton, Eketahuna, Dannevirke, Pallia-
tua, Featherston and Wellington clubs.
Admission charges are only Is and 6d, and the club is looking forward to a large attendance of the public.
