Almost penniless, ill-clothed and wholly glad to be back, 300 Canadians who fough with the loyalists —many wounded—arrived from Spain today. A number hinted al treachery in the
loyalist retreat from Barcelona, where the Canadians, awaiting repatriation, barely escaped being trapped and taken prisoner. They fled from Barcelona during the night with whatever clothing could be grabbed. FRENCH FORCES ON SPANISH FRONTIER. LOYALIST TROOPS DISORGANISED (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.) PARIS, February 3. The final phase of the Catalonian resistance seems to have been reached Deserters are increasingly reaching the frontier, where reinforced French forces with full war equipment await the climax, which is expected on February 5. The fugitives assert that loyalist troops north of Berga are without leaders and are disorganised.
