Opening Parliament the GovernorGeneral expressed gratification at the improvement in international relations, but warned every country valuing its liberty to keep its defences equipped. The Leader of the Nationalists gave notice of motion that the Government officially declare “Die Stem van Suid Africa” the only National Anthem. The leader of the Dominion Party is requesting an annual adequate grant to the Royal Navy, in acknowledgement or protection afforded, and further shipping contracts with the British mercantile marine.
Another £1,600,000 surplus is anticipated.
