The summer meeting of the Wellington Trotting Club opened yesterday in fine but overcast weather. The track was hard and fast, and the attendance for an off-day was quite satisfactory. The principal handicap of the day was won by Blair Athol, a pacer who has been showing consistent form lately. He was driven a very confident race by J. B. Pringle. The Minister of Mines, Mr Webb, made the presentation of the Gold Cup after the race.
