WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

SOLWAY-MANAIA MEETING.

At the monthly meeting of the Sol-way-Manaia Women’s Institute apologies for absence were received from Mesdames G. Allan, ■ McKenzie, McGovern and Miss Allan. A letter acknowledging the Institute’s assistance was received from the Disabled Soldiers' Association. Afternoon tea was followed by a competition which was won by Mrs Scrivener, and a demonstration on rag mats given by Mrs Sims, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Church contributed “A Trip to Opotiki” in the Golden Thread talk. Competitions resulted as follows:— jam: Mbs Woollett, 1; Mrs Scrivener, 2. Red flower: Mrs Aplin, 1; Mrs Munn, 2. Bunch of flowers: Mrs Munn, 1; Mrs Scrivener, 2. Sewing: Miss Russell, 1. Cooking: Mrs Woollett, 1; Mrs Munn, 2.

It was decided that the election of officers be held in'March. Thfe Roll Call for March will be four lines of Verse oh the institute. Competitions: Flowers (1); best aster (2); best gladiola. Cooking: (1) Pikelets; (2) sponge roll. Sewing: Article or child’s frock to cost not more than Is 6d. The hostesses were: Mesdames Carruthers, Cruickshank, Crewe, Davies.
