PHYSICAL FITNESS
PROCESSION IN MASTERTON
ARRANGEMENTS DETAILED. SUPPORT OF SPORTS CLUBS SOLICITED. Arrangements for the Physical Fitness Campaign procession to be held in Masterton on Saturday, February 18, are now well advanced. A meeting of the committee was held in the Lecture Room last night, when various matters regarding the proposed procession were dealt with. The committee expressed a desire that those interested should offer suggestions for the improvement of the programme arrangements. The details of the procession, etc,, are as follow: —
Those taking part in the procession to assemble at 1.15 p.m. at Wagg’s parking area, and the procession to move off promptly at 1.30 p.m., the route to be along Queen Street, and via Park Street to the Park, into the Park by the main gates, to the right round the Oval, the procession coming to a halt in front of the stand. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, will give a short address, after which, those wishing to return to their own clubs for play may do so. The afternoon programme in the park will include exhibition baseball, gymnastics, folk dancing, band music, etc. The suggested order of the procession is Masterton Municipal Band, Territorials, various sports clubs, Legion of Frontiersmen, Wairarapa College Pipe Band, Wairarapa College Cadets, Y.M.C.A. gymnastic squad, Central School band, school children, Fire Brigade.
Representatives of all sports clubs, etc., are to be dressed in their own particular sports attire, bat or ball to be carried, or as the case may be. As many banners as possible to be carried, each banner to be headed: “Keep Fit by joining (such and such) a club,” etc. In order to make the procession 1 ' as interesting as possible, those participating are urged to design attractive and original banners, and to wear their club attire. One of the objects of the procession is to induce those members of the public who do not take part in sport to join one or more clubs All clubs are asked to notify the organiser by February 11 of their intention of taking’ part, and of the approximate number of their members who will be in the procession.
The following organisations and clubs have been asked to take part in the procession: Amateur athletics, swirhming, wrestling, tennis, hockey, bowling, golf, physical culture, schools, music, young farmers, cricket, inter-house, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, badminton, pblo, aero, model aero, ping pong, baseball, St John Ambulance, Plunket Society, Legion of Frontiersmen, Fire Board, fencing, basketball, croquet, cycling, harriers, tramping.
It is necessary that further assistance and support be forthcoming and clubs and organisations listed are asked to send representatives to the next meeting to be held on Tuesday. February 7, at 7.30 p.m. in the Lecture Room, Municipal Buildings. It is felt that unless organisations are prepared to assist, the committee would not be justified iff carrying out these proposals.
