DEMAND FOR COLONIES
DEVELOPMENT OF GERMAN CAMPAIGN CONDITION OF PEACEFUL UNDERSTANDING. DISARMAMENT AND EUROPEAN RELATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. BERLIN, February 1. Official circles state that an understanding between Britain and Germany is impossible before the return of the German colonies. Germany, furthermore, cannot envisage a useful conference for consideration of disarmament before a solution is effected of relations between Italy and France.
Meainwhile, the initial shots in Germany’s renewed colonial campaign were fired today in the course of an article in the “Zwoelfuhr Blatt,” which gives prominent to contributions from Lord Redesdale, Dr William Harbutt Dawson, doctor of philosophy at Konisberg University, and Sir Ernest Bennett, M.P. Sir Ernest Bennett says: Germany was robbed of her entire colonial possessions. We have no moral right to them, and it is our duty to return them. Dr Dawson said: It is impossible that a small handful of people should demand the control of one-third of the world while Germany is without a square yard of overseas territory. I hope Herr Hitler’s tireless efforts will make Germany’s former enemies realize that they, and not he, hold the key to international contentment. Lord Redesdale said: Germany’s demands cannot be refused. An increasing number of people throughout England are realising the justice of them.
