CRITIC QUESTIONS CLAIM,
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, February 2.
The German High Command has released details of the “Siegfried Line” air defences on the western frontier. They are 40 miles deep and armed with motorised anti-air.craft guns, balloon barrages and pursuit planes. The entire zone is covered by searchlights. The officer commanding the zone, General Kitzinger, stated that attackers would be either annihilated or forced to retreat. The aeronautical correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph,” Group-Captain Payne, however, says that no country is yet able to create an impenetrable zone of air defence.
The attacking powers of aeroplanes are increasing rather than decreasing because of new aids such as the progress of navigation in bad weather and at night time.
