SOLWAY RAINFALL.
RECORD FOR JANUARY. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that rain was measured on 7 days in January, the maximum fall being 18 points on January 1G and 18, and the minimum 1 point on January L The total for the month was 58 points as compared with 4.G7 inches (1938), 4.37 (1937), 4.57 (1936), .75 (1935), 3.2 G (1934). The January average for 3G years is 2.60 inches. Other low rainfalls for January are 45 points (1928). 50 points (1908) and 56 points (1914).
Miss A. M. Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today:—Barograph, 30.13; shade temperature, maximum 75.7, minimum 56.1; terrestrial. 47.2; sunshine, 1 hour 13 minutes.
General situation: Pressure remains relatively high and uniform over New Zealand but a shallow depression advancing across the Tasman Sea is causing some fall in the south. Forecast: Light northerly winds gradually freshening: weather fair to cloudy and warm.
