WAIRARAPA TROTTING CLUB
FUTURE DISCUSSED. DECISION TO AMALGAMATE WITH WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CARTERTON, This Day. The Wairarapa Trotting Club, which abandoned its Christmas meeting on account of poor acceptances and wet weather, held a special meeting at Greytown last night to decide upon the future of the club. The president, Mr J. F. Thompson, placed the position clearly before members, stating that the club was in a position to meet all financial obligations with the exception that reimbursement to owners bringing horses to the abandoned meeting from Wellington turned this profit into a loss. The meeting went into committee to discuss the matter in all its bearings. The following resolution was unanimously passed: “That the Wairarapa Trotting Club amalgamate with the Wellington Trotting Club which will take over the club's assets and liabilities and admit Wairarapa members as country members at the nominal fee of £1 per year. This arrangement is to be subject to confirmation by the Wellington Trotting Club.” The Wairarapa Trotting Club has been in existence since 1897, first as a charitable institution giving its profits, amounting to £llOO, to the South Wairarapa Hospital. The constitution was later altered by a Government regulation. The president expressed the opinion that Government taxation was ruining small country clubs. He referred to the meeting before last when the club made a profit of £3OO but the taxation came to £6OO. In the past five years the club had lost, £1196.
