circles and among the Italian people generally. The Fuhrer’s references to Italy again confirm the unswerving friendship of the two countries. Signor Virgino Gayda, in an editorial, says peace hinges on the satisfaction of German colonial claims, on French territorial concessions to Italy, and Japanese control of China.

(Received This Day, 1.20 p.m.) LONDON. January 31. • The “Daily Telegraph’s” Rome correspondent says Herr Hitler’s speech did not define two points which Italy regards as essential: — (1) Germany’s future eastern policy. (2) The possibility of Italy immediately realising her claims against France.

NO IMPROVEMENT WASHINGTON’S CONSIDERED VERDICT. (Received This Day, noon.) WASHINGTON, January 31. After considered study, Washington is inclined to regard Herr Hitler's speech as temperate and designed principally for home consumption. The speech did nothing to improve the strained relations between the United States and Germany.
