SUCCESS OF COUNTER

WIN FOR MASTERTON OWNER. Counter, the winner of the two-year-old race at Pahiatua on Saturday, in addition to being the first of the Croupiers to win, bears considerable resemblance to his sire, both in conformation and action. He was bred by his owner, Mr J. H. Payton, of Masterton, and comes of a good family. His darn, Thurville, is by Thurnham from Nantville, by Sanquhar—Nantes, by Stepniak, so he belongs to the branch of No. 18 family which has produced Nightmarch, Silver Ring. Silver Scorn, Chide, Haughty Winner, and other high-dass racehorses. Counter is trained by Ashley Jenkins, Opaki.
