MORE BUSH FIRES
’ EXTENSIVE AREA SWEPT IN VICTORIA TEN HOUSES DESTROYED. FIGHT TO SAVE TOWNSHIP. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. MELBOURNE, January 30. The bush fires, which broke out in the Selby and Dandenong Ranges yesterday, fanned by a strong wind today, swept upon the Selby township and destroyed ten houses. The fire is burning in an area containing many holiday weekend homes belonging to Melbourne residents and many small townships. Fire-fighters saved the remainder of Selby while women and children sheltered in the brick St Andrew’s Church. Flames burnt within a few yards of the building.
