With reference to a report of the North Canterbury Farmers’ Union regarding the control of the white butterfly, Dr Miller, acting-director and chief entomologist of the Cawthron Institute, said there was a misunderstanding as to who was responsible for the parasite’s control of the white butterfly. It was very often thought that this outstanding piece of work was done by the Cawthron Institute, said Dr Miller. It could not be too widely known that the credit was due not to the institute, but to Mr John Muggeridge, who. as Government entomologist, was solely responsible for the introduction and establishment of the butterfly parasite, which had resulted in such spectacular suppression of the pest.
