CARTERTON

GUN CLUB MEETING.

MASTERTON COMPETITOR SUCCESSFUL. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the weekend shoot of the Carterton Gun Club and considering there was a keen wind blowing from the South excellent shooting was done. Besides the Carterton members of the club shooters were present from Lower Hutt, Masterton and Martinborough. The first match fired was a 21 clay bird competition, which ended in two competitors breaking 18 “clays” out of the 21, and in the fire off, J. McKenzie proved the winner. The results are as follow; —

Twenty-one bird trophy competition, value £3 3s, second £1 Is, with optional sweepstake: —J. McKenzie, Masterton (19yds), 18 breaks and 4 out of 5 in the shoot off, 1; W. Broughton, Martinborough, (12yds), 18 breaks and 2 out of sin the shoot off, 2. Also competed, J. W. Curtin and R. Williams, 17 birds; B. Lipinski, J. Minehan, R. Fuge, W. Moroney, 16; G. Howie, A. Fraser, 15; Rex Walker, F. E. Allen, 14; D. McKenzie, L. Liddington, J. Rayner, 13; H. K. Smith, J. Crawford, 11; G. A. Vincent, 10; A. Teal, 4; G. Bretherton and G. S. George, retired. The sweepstake attached to this event was won by J. McKenzie with R. Fuge second. Nine bird sweepstake.—Messrs J. Bretherton, H. K. Smith, F. E. Allen and W. Moroney, tied with a possible each, and divided the stake money. The other shooters were, J. McKenzie, 7 birds; G. Howie and R. Williams, 6; L. Liddington, R. Walker, G. S. George, R. Fuge, 5; D. McKenzie, J. Crawford, B. Lipinski, J. Rayner. Broughton, Teal and Curtin retired.

BOOTH CUP BOWLING. CARTERTON DEFEAT MARTINBOROUGH. Carterton had a victory in all games played on Saturday in the Booth Cup competition. At Carterton the green was at times difficult ot play, being very fast. Afternoon tea was provided and presided over by Mrs N. Boyne and Miss Robertson. At Martinborough the visitors were entertained to afternoon tea by the ladies. The following are the results of games played, Carterton bowlers mentioned first in each case:—

At Martinborough—Kilmister, Harris, Barber, Geo Hart (s), beat Bing, McGregor McNally, S. Boyd, 22/17. L. Harrington, Underhill, R. Thompson, Tucker (s), beat Feist, Beveridge, Stumbles, Wright (s), 34/13. Duthie Shield —Newbould, A. Thompson, W. Hart, Whyte (s), beat Corfield Smith, Ross, Bain (s), 24/14. The following friendly games were played at Carterton:—Dudson, Savill, Foster, Stent (s), beat Boyne, Porter, Spooner, Simmonds (s), 23/18. Lynch, Hipkins, Meyrick, W. Stevens (s) beat Bath, Gaze, Hawker, Barr (s), 26/17.

CRICKET MATCH.

CARTERTON STILL UNBEATEN. The junior match played at Masterton on Saturday between the junior elevens of Carterton and Masterton ended in another victory for the unbeaten Carterton team by 31 runs on the first innings. Bowling analysis—Reid, 5 for 25; Longworth, 3 for 22; Brice, 1 for 34; Brunton, 0 for 16. Personals. Mr and Mrs Raymond Phillpotts and family, who have been staying with Mr Phillpotts’s parents. Carterton, returned to Gisborne today. Mr and Mrs W. C. Deller and children, who have been on a motor holiday to Whangarei, returned to Carterton after having spent a most pleasant time. They report good weather during the trip, but no real summer.
