DRENCHING RAIN
AUCKLAND HOLIDAY SPOILT. SPORTS GATHERINGS POSTPONED. (By Telegraph-—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Drenching rain overnight an'! cununuing in the forenoon spoilt tin- nmiday celebration for the anniversary of the founding of Auckland Province. All fixtures were postponed except the races at Ellerslie, the postponements including the anniversary regatta provincial tennis championships, cricket, picnics, the Hamilton rowing carnival, and the Helensville Show. The rain started early yesterday afternoon, following a long dry spell and greatly benefits crops, pastures, orchards and gardens. FALL OF OVER THREE INCHED. AUCKLAND, This Day. From three o’clock yesterday afternoon to nine o'clock today the rainfall was 3.01 inches.
