DOMINION TOURNAMENT. MANY INTERESTING GAMES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., January 28. The weather vjas fine and warm for the continuation of the New Zealand croquet championships in Palmerston North today. Greens which have been worked hard are still reliable and true, and many tributes to the attention given them have been paid by visiting players. Play today was confined to the women’s championship, open championship and handicap singles. In the open championships, wljich have been played in five sections, players with most wins now graduate to a further section. The players are:—

First section: A. Ross and Mrs A. S. Clark (6 wins each); Mrs Pitcaithly, Mrs Burrett and Mrs McLennan (4 wins each). Second section: Bryan (6 wins); Mrs Tiffen and Mrs McMurray (5 wins each). Third section: Mrs McLeod (7 wins), and McCreath (6 wins). Fourth section: Tannock (7 wins), Mrs Gambrill and Mrs Watkins (5 wins each).

Fifth section: Penn, Mrs Anstis and Mrs Petrie (5 wins each); Mrs Walker, Mrs Morgan, Mrs Brown (4 wins each).

Penn won both lives in the men’s championship and takes the title, and in a match today for runner-up Bryan (Waimarie) beat McClymonth (Wanganui), 26-12. Many interesting games were witnessed today. Results:— WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP. Second Life. Third round: Mrs Watkins beat Mrs Wood, 26-7; Mrs Tiffen beat Mrs Bryan, 26-22. Semi-final: Mrs Watkins beat Mrs Tiffen, 26-14. HANDICAP SINGLES. 3 Bisques and Under. Fourth round: Mrs Clark (owe 1) beat Tannock (owe J), 26-25; McClymont (scr), beat Mrs McMurray (1), 26-16; Miss Washer (2) beat Mrs Tiffen (owe J), 26-3. Semi-final: Mrs Palmer (owe 1) beat Miss Washer, 26-14.

TODAY’S PLAY. A SURPRISE RESULT. PALMERSTON N.. This Day. The cold weather and disturbing wind made conditions unpleasant for the Dominion croquet tourney today. A surprise result was the defeat of Mrs McLeod by Mrs McLennan. The former has been a consistently good player. Results: — OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. First round.—A. G. F. Ross beat Mrs Anstis. 26/19; Mrs McLennan beat Mrs McLeod 26/4. HANDICAP DOUBLES. Quarter final. —Bryan and Miss McKenzie beat Mesdames Petrie and Hill, 26/5. Mrs Henderson and Mills beat Mesdames Clark and Reed. 26/22; Mrs Brown and Miss D'Ath beat Mesdames Wood and Anderson. 26/20.
