TERRITORIAL CLAIMS
ITALIAN DEMAND FOR FRENCH POSSESSIONS
First Official Intimation Made by Minister
TUNIS, JIBUTI, CORSICA AND NICE NAMED
By Telegraph—Press Association. —Copyright.
LONDON, January 28.
A definition of Italy’s claims comes from Germany, where the first official intimation that Italy is seeking actual French possessions was given by Signor Farinacci. Italian Minister without portfolio, who is at present touring the country. Speaking in Munich, he defined Italy’s territorial claims as Tunis, Jibuti. Corsica and Nice. He added that Italy would never tolerate Tunis being in the possession of a country tnreatening southern Italy. Jibuti under French rule meant for Italy what Hamburg under foreign rule would mean to Germany. Corsica belonged ( to Italy by virtue of “language, race and geography,” while Nice had “put herself for centuries under the protection of the House of Savoy.”
.Signor Gayda, "Mussolini’s mouthpiece,” denies that the Duce is planning a four-Power conference to discuss European appeasement. It is also announced in Rome that the Italian Foreign Minister, Count Ciano, is not going to Berlin, as was previously reported, to make a formal announcement of Italy's claims against France today.
