FATALLY INJURED
CYCLIST HIT BY TRAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., January 28. ■ Injuries from which he died in Palmerston North Hospital were received by Mr Peter Seivert. aged 54. Palmerston North, last night when he was struck by a ballast train at Cook Street crossing. He was riding a bicycle at the time but, peculiarly enough, the machine was undamaged. It • nears that Mr Seivert was pushing his bicycle across the track when the train approached, backing from the railway yards. It is understood that the engine-driver called out a warning to the cyclist and, believing him to be clear of the line, kept on backing.
