MASTERTON A. AND P. SHOW.
XfOTABLE always on account of its relationship with the
productive activities of a remarkably rich and fertile district, the Maslerton A. and P. Association’s annual Show appears 1o have every prospect of maintaining this year its usual high standards and of attaining its customary success. While it is primarily a demonstration of what the district is able to accomplish in various branches of primary production, the Show is always of great value and interest also in the light it casts upon possibilities of further progress and advancement.
Even in those branches of production in which, during years of effort and experiment, a high degree of excellence has been attained, constant attention and vigilance are demanded in order that standards of quality may be maintained, and as far as possible improved upon. There tire other branches, notably the production of some classes of pigs, in which a great deal has yet to bo learned. In its comprehensive comparisons and testing of standards, the A. oand P. Show makes tin invaluable contribution to the solution of all such problems.
Il was never more necessary than it is today that the most should bo made of whatever conduces to higher standards of efficiency in farming industry. Like ti good many other people, the man on the land is faced at present by exacting demands and perplexing difficulties and in these circumstances emphasis is laid upon the educational value of the A. and P. Show aijd upon the important part it plays as a stimulus to enterprise and progress.
With its more serious purpose, the Show combines a lighter and a genial appeal, as the occasion of a great gathering of people from all parts of the Wairarapa and from many places further afield. Where the entertainment of the public is concerned, as in other respects, the A. and P. Association is endeavouring to move with the times. It is not only providing a full programme of the competitions and other events that are traditionally associated with the Show, but has introduced other popular features, some of them novel in kind. The association is fortunate in its beautiful grounds at Solway and in excellent buildings and appointments. With a good Hoxv of entries there should be no doubt about this year’s Show comparing well in all departments with those that have gone before and attracting a full measure of public patronage.
