New Zealand-bred Martara (Martarma —Taaheke) won the Macpherson Cup (one mile and a-half) at Calcutta on December 17. He had 9.3, and, ridden by J. Simpson, scored easily, in 2min 34 l-ssec. Auto Buz ran with 9.7, but he is slow in striking his best Australian form, and finished nowhere. Martara is trained by A. Higgins. N. Percival was another Australian rider successful on the day Simpson won Percival scored on Felibridge in the Bilbury plate, a six-furlong race.
