Fishing at Lake Kanieri in the last few weeks has been excellent, reports the secretary of the Westland Acclimatisation Society. Several fine bags of quinnat salmon have been taken, the largest fish weighing about 61b. Last week-end a party of three Hokitika anglers visited the mouth of the Waitangi River' in South Westland, and obtained a bag of 30 brown trout. The trout averaged 61b. in weight, the largest being 91b. Another party of two Hokitika anglers spent a week at the mouth of the Big Wanganui River near Hari Hari and caught 22 large fish, weighing up to 101 b. Both parties reported that the fish were very plentiful at both these rivers, and the average size was far in excess of those obtained in the more northern rivers.
