THE GERMAN HARVEST

A RECORD REPORTED. According to preliminary statistics Germany has had a record corn harvest this year, and should be able to supply her own requirements until next harvest. With 3.000,000 tons of reserves outstanding from 1937 the Reich has 31.000.000 tons of grain available for the coming year. The estimated annual consumption is between 25.000,000 and 26.000.000 tons, so that apart from imports there should still be a reserve of nearly G. 000.000 tons when next year's harvest is gathered. This year's record harvest makes it possible for white bread to be made again without the admixture of 7 per cent of maize meal. The bread will still, however, be mixed- with 4 per cent of potato meal.
