Low, of Essex Street, Mas- | terton, is on a visit to Nelson. Mrs C. M. Wright, Pahiatua, is visiting Paraparaumu, being the guest of Mrs A. T. Sinclair. Mrs F. M. Perry, of New Plymouth, is the guest of Mrs R. Brown, Essex Street, Masterton. Misses Phyllis Wilton, Masterton. and Winnie Bird, Carterton, left yesterday for Christchurch on a holiday. Miss Avis Loft, of Masterton, will leave next week to take up a position in Wellington. Mrs S. Mawley, Lansdowne, who has been staying in Napier, will return to Masterton this week. Mrs H. Rawson, who has been staying with Mrs S. J. Gill, Cole Street. Masterton, has returned to Wellington. Mrs Russell Smith, of Bideford, and her little son, are staying at Seatoun. Wellington. Mrs Miller-Hope, Macara Street. Masterton, is spending a holiday al Raurnati Beach. Mrs Trevor Thompson, of Auckland, is visiting her sister, Mrs B. V. Sheet, Westbush Road, Masterton. Mrs McCartney, Auckland, is staying with her mother, Mrs Toxward. Hogg Crescent, Masterton. Misses N. Sellar and J. Sellar, of King Edward Street, Lansdowne, have returned from a motor trip to Auckland. Miss Ngarie Russell, of Masterton, has accepted a position in Wellington, and will leave to take up her new duties early next week. Mr and Mrs. Boyne and family have returned to Carterton after having spent an enjoyable holiday at Hunterville and Palmerston North. 'Mrs Frank Peterson and her small son have returned to Wellington after having spent a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Finlayson, “Waimarae,’” Lansdowne. Still enjoying good health, a worthy pioneer of the district, Mrs. Francis J. Cox, celebrated her ninety-iourtn birthday yesterday at her home, Gladstone Street, Woodville. Relatives and friends conveyed their good wishes to ivxrs Cox, among early callers to offer their congratulations being the Mayor, Mr R. R. Johnston, and Mrs Johnston. A congratulatory message was also received from Sir Alfred Ransom, M.P. for the district and Lady Ransom. Representatives of various religious bodies were among those who paid their compliments to Mrs Cox. Surviving members of the family are Mesdames vv. Bly (Morrinsville), G. Hutchinson (Masrerton), A. Crozier (Woodville), Messrs A. Cox- (Opotiki), P. Cox <Mangamahu, Fordell), H. Cox (New Plymouth) and R. Cox (Hokitika). Tnere are 28 grandchildren and 36 greatgrandchildren. The present of a handsome birthday cake, appropriately designed and inscribed, was received from Mrs. Ralph Cox, Hokitika, for the celebrations. ENGAGEMENT HUBBARD—LOADER. The engagement is announced of Nancy, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs C. J. Loader, Taueru, Masterton, to Archibald Frederick, youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. T. P. Hubbard, Upper Plain, Masterton.
