GROWTH OF THE BRITISH CIVIL GUARD PROGRESS IN RECRUITING AND TRAINING. 1 CO-OPERATION OF CLUBS. (British Official Wireless./ RUGBY. January 23. The Air Council has decided on the immediate expansion of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve by the formation of aircraft crew and ground sections. Recruitment for training in both the new sections will begin forthwith.
More than 55,000 members of the Civil Air Guard have passed their medical examinations and have been enrolled since its ■ formation four months ago, states a report of the Commissioners of the Guard. More than 1380 members of the Guard now possess their "A” licences and about 3550 of the enrolled members are being taught to fly. The rest are attending lectures on aviation and being given ground instruction. More than 60 aero clubs are participating in the scheme and approximately 330 aircraft are being used for instructional purposes.
