Rests for Pillion Riders.
in future, motor-cyclists who carry pillion-riders without providing them with proper footrests will be prosecuted, according to a statement made by Inspector D. E. Hopwood, of- the Transport Department, in the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court. All motorcyclists, said the inspector, probably d'id not realise that a pillion rider had to be provided with footrests, distinct from those used by the rider. One such case was dealt with yesterday. The inspector said that it had been brought as a warning and Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., ordered the defendant to pay costs only.
Running Tracks Criticised. The opinion that the Basin Reserve in Wellington was the best track they had seen in the course of their tour was expressed by the visiting Australian athletes, G. Backhouse and E. Best! who were tendered a presentation at Dunedin. The Alexandra track was definitely the best of the country grounds encountered. Mr Backhouse described the Milton track as' being "New Zealand scenery in miniature — alternate hills and lakes.” The Royburgh track was so full of undulations that, as Mi- Backhouse said, “we would have been seasick if we had not been such good sailors.” ,
