HAWKE CUP MATCH. MANAWATU IN A STRONG POSITION. '"By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, January 23. The end of- the second day's play in the Hawke Cup elimination cricket match saw Manawatu in a strong position with a lead of 146 runs on the first innings and 357 for seven in the second. Nelson’s first innings produced 191. The highlight of the day was Pritchard's hat trick when he had Glover caught in the slips off the first ball of an over, then clean bowled R. Newman and Du Feu with the next two. Pritchard completed a fine bowling performance, taking seven wickets for 68. At one stage he had three for 66. and took the last four at a cost of only two runs. In Nelson’s first innings A. Newman made 74 and Glover 35. In Manawatu’s second innings Murchison made 63. C. McVicar 35, Gallichan 46, S. McVicar 82 not out, and Campbell 48 not out.
