AUCKLAND WOOL SALE
PRICES SIMILAR TO THOSE AT WANGANUI QUALITY BELOW USUAL STANDARD. FAIRLY HEAVY EARLY PASSINGS. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The second Auckland wool sale of the season opened today, with an offering of 24,000 bales, before a bench of about 60 buyers. Less than a dozen of these were responsible for most of the bidding. The wool, in quality and condition was not equal to that offered at Che first sale in November, and was below the standard usual at the second sale. This was due to unfavourable winter conditions.
Bidding was particularly keen from the front benches, representing Bradford and Continental buyers, but limits obviously were on a very rigid basis, similar to that ruling at the last Dominion sale at Wanganui. Prices were from Id to Ijd less than those obtained at Auckland in November.
In the first catalogue, fleece -wools generally ranged from 8d to 9d per lb. Special prices were obtained for seven bales of Ryeland fine crossbred Waiheke halfbred passed in at 113 d and seven bales of Corriedale under brand Mangatangi brought 143 d. As nearly as could be judged, passings on the first catalogue approximated 15 per cent. LONDON MARKET CROSSBREDS CLEAR WELL. Ey Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON. January 23. At the wool sales. 9081 bales were offered, including 3451 from New Zealand and 7921 were sold. There was a fair selection, chiefly crossbreds, which together with the best Australian Merinos, wore well cleared at recent rates. Withdrawals consisted chiefly of inferior scoureds.
Bradford tops are firm, but business is slow.
