PEACE IDEALS

MR BRUCE ON AUSTRALIA’S PART. ENGAGEMENT WITH DEFENCE COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, January 23. The Australian High Commissioner in London, Mr S. M. Bruce, and the Premier of Ontario, Mr Mitchell Hepburn, received a cordial welcome from a large gathering of representative citizens at the wharf today. In an interview Mr Bruce said that if peace was to be maintained and the ideals for which the democracies stood were to endure, then the democracies would have to co-operate. Australia thus had an important part to play. He was quite sure that the people would rise to whatever heights circumstances demanded in the future. Mr Bruce said that his most important immediate engagement would be with the Australian Defence Council in Melbourne on Wednesday.
