WAIRARAPA CRICKET
JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP LAST SATURDAY’S GAMES. GOOD SCORES REGISTERED. There were no senior games played in Masterton on Saturday, but the junior competition was continued in fine weather and on satisfactory wickets, some good scores being registered.
The games resulted as follows:— Red Star v. Martinborough. — These teams met on the Park Oval, Red Star I winning by 32 runs on the first innings. | Scores: Red Star, first innings, 155 (Hayes 67, Osborne 33, Wellington 25; Power 5 for 29. Moody 2 for 11, Johns 2 for 34, ; Kershaw 1 for 58, Hamilton 0 for 20). Second innings, 58 (Bell 15, Wellington 12, Williams 11; Johns 4 for 17, Power 4 for 29, Hancox 1 for 11). Martinborough, Ist innings, 123 (Kershaw, not out, GO. Murphy 21, Todd 16; Osborne 3 for 43, Williams 2 for 17. Hatch 2 for 23, Bell 2 for 25). Second innings, 3 for 51 (Murphy, not out, 26, Kershaw 17; Williams 2 for 18, Wellington 1 for 31). Masterton v. St. Patrick’s Old Boys. This match was played on the College ground and was won by the Masterton team on the first innings. Scores: Mas' terton, first innings, 237 for 3 wickets declared (Reid, not out, 114, Young retired 58. Longworth 34, Minifie, not out 12. Malloy 10; Hart 1 for 39, Corlett 1 for 43). St. Patrick’s Old Boys, first firings 155 (Donnelly not out 52, Jensen 42, Hart 14. Corlet 13; Malloy 3 for 35, Reid 2 for 5, Longworth 2 for 29, Brunton J for 27). Carterton v. Old Boys. — Played at the Masterton Park Oval, this match resulted in an easy win for Carterton, who established the unique record of winning the match without losing a wicket in either innings. Scores: Carterton, first innings, 150 for no wickets (Byers, not out, 76; Ewing, not out. 69); second innings, 37 for no wickets (Fitzgerald, not out. 23; Ward, not out, 11).
