SCOUTS RETURN
LARGE PARTY ABOARD AWATEA FAVOURABLE IMPRESSION MADE IN AUSTRALIA. OBSERVATIONS BY CHIEF COMMISSIONER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! WELLINGTON, This Day. The New Zealand Chief Commissioner of Boy Scouts, Mr Christie, returned on the Awatea with 311 Scouts, and 28 lady cubmasters, in charge of Mr T. Mclver, Metropolitan Commissioner, Christchurch. Mr Christie said the New Zealand boys had created a favourable impression and had acquitted themselves splendidly. He praised the work of the two doctors, especially in detecting an incipient outbreak of measles on the way over. Their services were most valuable and when they arrived in camp, instead of resting and making excursions, they joined the medical staff and worked throughout as camp doctors.
Captain Davey, of the Awatea, has been made the recipient of a Scout thanks badge. Mr Christie trusts that parents will feel that the sacrifices they made to give their boys the trip have been worth while.
