NATIONAL SERVICE
WAR EMERGENCY PLANS IN BRITAIN PREMIER TO BROADCAST. GREAT RALLY AT ALBERT HALL. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. January 21. A great co-ordinated campaign for the enrolment of volunteers for the various branches of the national service, particularly organisations concerned with air-raid precautions, opens next week. Mr Chamberlain will broadcast to the nation on Monday night and on Tuesday there will be a national service rally at the Albert Hall.
On Wednesday the nation-wide distribution begins of the national service guide, which will contain all the necessary information to enable each citizen to decide where his or her services can best be employed, subject to schedule which will be issued in provisional form the day before the “reserved occupations.”
Occupations in question are those of such importance in time of emergency that those engaged in them would best serve the national interests in war by remaining at their posts and intensifying their efforts.
