GOOD COMPETITION. SEIGFRIED PURCHASED FOR SOUTHLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The national thoroughbred sales wen concluded at Trentham yesterday Siegfried was bought by Mr A. Chis holm, of Otautau, Southland, for SOOgtts He is the sire of Wotan, winner of the Melbourne Cup in 1936 in record time Essex. Brunhild, Lady Furst. Wilson Siegift, and many other distinguished winners. Lilock. with a brown filly by Siegfried, brought 700gns. She was purchased by Mr C. Wheeler of Adelaide. Princess Bell, with a bay filly by Siegfried brought 450gns, was purchased by Mr W. J. Smith, of Sydney. The third top price of the sale was 650gns paid for Blue Maid, with a bay colt foal by Bulandshar. She was bought by Mr W. J. Sydney, of Sydney.
A two-year-old bay by Harinero was bought by Mr J. H. Jefl'erd. Ngatarawa Hawke’s Bay. for 260gns.
The black mare, Beth, 15yrs, by Joculator —Queen Lizzie, with filly at foot by Gainscourt. was bought by Campbell Smith, Martinborough for 50gns. The chestnut mare. Mirabelle 11, 18yrs by Kroonstad—Unnamed, was bought by H, C. Pearce, Featherston for 35gns. On account of Mr W. P. Clarke and Mr. E. M. Benge, Featherston, the brown mare, Bowrina, 19yrs, by Boniform — Desrina, was sold to L. A. Crawford. Featherston (as agent), for llOgns.
