TOURNEY AT AUCKLAND CONTESTS DRAWING TO A CLOSE. PAIRS EVENT REDUCED TO FINAL. (By Telegraoh—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. January 19. Good progress was made with postsection play in three events, singles, pairs, and fours, in the New Zealand Bowling Association’s championship tournament this afternoon. Three rounds of post-section play were decided in the fours and three games in the pairs, and four games in the singles were also played. In the rinks event there were two unbeaten fours, Franks (Balmoral) and Deare (Carlton).

The pairs competition was reduced to the final, which will be contested by I. Stephenson (Gisborne) and W. Robinson (Hamilton). Players eliminated today were: J. Kerr (Onehunga) and Whyte (Sydenham). The semi-final stages have been reached in the singles, the four remaining players being A. Connew (Mt Albert). H. Cowper (Ponsonby), S. Martin (Ellerslie), and W. C. Franks (Balmoral).

The pairs competition will be completed tomorrow, and it is expected that the singles and fours will be completed on Saturday. Results: —
