DANNEVIRKE SHOW
THE PIG CLASSES. A steadily growing feature at the Dannevirke A. and P. Association's annual show, to be held this year on February 7 and 8 is the section devoted to pigs. In the purebred breeds there are classes for Berkshire, Tamworth, Large Whites, Large Blacks. There is a challenge cup for Berkshires, to which special conditions are attached, and valuable trophies for Tamworths, Large Whites and Large Blacks, also governed by special conditions, and intending exhibitors should make themselves conversant therewith. A new feature on this occasion is the national bacon pig championship, conducted and controlled throughout New Zealand by the Whangarei A. and P. Society, in eight provincial sections. The Dannevirke A. & P. Association is holding that for the East Coast. There is a substantial prize for first judging alive (on hoof) and second judging as bacon carcase, and full details and conditions appear in the schedule. There is also a miscellaneous section. With such, a big range of classes, and the encouragement offered breeders to exhibit, it is hoped that there will be a widespread response both from within and from outside the A. and P. Society's district. Entries close on January 24 with the show secretary. Dannevirke, and all interested in" the national bacon pig championship should take an early opportunity to become conversant with the conditions of the contest.
