The death occurred at Hastings yesterday of Mrs Unice Lizzie Esther Cole (nee Richards), wife of Mr George Cole, at the age of -64 years. The funeral took place at Hastings today. The Rt Rev F. Melville Innes-Jones, senior Bishop of Lagos, West Africa, and formerly of Nelson, is expected to retire shortly and visit New Zealand. Bishop Innes-Jones has many relatives in New Zealand.

Dr T. L. Parr, who was yesterday appointed Medical Superintendent of the Masterton Hospital, represented the Hutt district on the Wellington Hospital Board from 1933 to 1938. Dr Parr was a visitor to Masterton yesterday, when he met members of the Wairarapa Board. Mr W. R. Watson, son of Mr and Mrs J. Watson, Lansdowne, Masterton, is now an air pilot officer stationed in Uxbridge, England, having passed his first examination with honours. He has also been recommended as one of four to fly twin and multi-engined planes.

Mr William Stewart McClymont was appointed secretary and treasurer of the Grey Electric Power Board from •8 applicants in succession to Mr John Denford, who is joining the Christchurch electricity department. Mr McClymont has been for 11 years secretary of the Marlborough Power Board and was previously accountant o the Ashburton Power Board.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, the chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, congratulated i„ member of the board, Miss C. McKenny, who was created an M.B.E. in .he New Year Honours. Mr Mawley said Miss McKenny had devoted her life-time to nursing and the welfare of nurses. Observing that she was □resident of the Nurses’ Association. Miss McKenny said that the honour was a compliment to the whole of the aursing profession. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Croquet Council the following officers were elected for the ensuing /ear: —President, Mr R. W. McCreath (Gore); vice-presidents, Mr R. D. Cam□rjll (Palmerston North), C. Webber iAuckland); handicapper, Mrs C. Watxins (Hastings); referee, Mr G. F. Ross (Christchurch); secretary and .reasurer, Mrs W. S. Austin (Welllng.on); assistant secretary, Mrs W. Callow (Wellington); selectors, Mrs Watkins and Messrs Ross, A. J. Gibbs (Patea).
