SALE AT ADDINGTON. PALL IN EAT SHEEP PRICES. (Ey TeteFrapl'—Press Associntior..’. CHRISTCHURCH, Jtmuary 13. At-Addington best lambs from local districts were bought direct, for works at IBs tel, and a line of 252 North Canterbury lambs sold at a penny more. Medium lambs at from 12s to 14s showed no change in value, end a big percentage cl’ smalland backward sold at from 8?' to 9s, with culls at about 6s to 7s. A pen of four-tooth wethers sold t.t 15s, and another at 13s. The first ewes of the season from Chatham
Islands were offered, a line of 150 four six and eight-tooth Romney cross making 22s 3d. The quality--was. not so good, the proportion of butcher.-:’ iambs forward being small. The export
schedule has been reduced for this s'cek. and up to 36's are new 7jd a lb,
and 37's to 42 s 7,'id. Exporters operated actively at these rates for medium and lighter- lambs, and for lambs that suited local trade butchers paid another farthing.
The entry of fat sheep comprised about 5000 of mixed quality, the proportion of prime being limited. With heavier entries, rates last week were not maintained, though the difference over the first part of the sale was small for wethers. As the sale progressed the difference became more marked, particularly for butchers’ ewes, which were easier than a week ago by Is 6d to 2s a head. Good wethers were down about Is, and lighter sorts were also easier. Freezing ewes, however, maintained last week’s rates. MASTERTON SALE. FAT SHEEP FIRM IN PRICE. The N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op, Distributing Co. Ltd. report as follows: —We offered large entries of store sheep and a small yarding of cattle at the Masterton sale yesterday. Fat sheep were firm at late rates. The best lines of forward rape lambs met with a keen sale at improved prices, and there was a fair demand for the large entry of store wethers. The following are some of our sales: —Fat b.f. wethers, 17s 3d to 19s 9d; Fat ewes, 10s to 11s 3d; b.f. lambs, 14s to 16s; small 11s! w.f. lambs, 11s 6d to 12s 9d; small 7s Jd to 10s; w.f. w ewe lambs, 16s; shorn 12s 6d; twotooth wethers, 14s 4d to 15s lOd; cull wethers 9s 3d to 13s 6d; fat and forward Hereford cows, £5 10s; fat cows ex-dairy, £4 10s to £4 ss. WRIGHT STEPHENSON & CO. LTD. A FAR BETTER TONE. Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd. report:—There was a far better tone about the sale at.Masterton yesterday. Lambs sold particularly well, especially good forward condition b.f. lambs, which made up to 18s. Small black faces also made good values. W.f. lambs were better although good w.f. lambs look good buying at today’s values; Fat sold at late rates. We yarded a few fat ewes, well sold at par values. The following are the prices received: —B.f. lambs (good), 16s 3d to' 18s. B.f. lambs (medium), 15s sd; small b.f. lambs,. 10s; w.w. lambs, 11s 6d to 12s •Id; fat cows, £6 7s 6d to £7 4s; weaner pigs (very good), 18s to 28s. MESSRS. DALGETY & CO., LTD.
Messrs. Dalgety & Co., Ltd., report on their weekly Masterton sale as follows: —A large entry of sheep came forward and were offered to a big and representative attendance of buyers. From the commencement, the tone of the market showed a decided improv ment on that of last week, buyers bidding keenly. Good b.f. lambs were in demand, and there was also a good inquiry for 2-tooth and 4-tooth wethers V/'.f. wether lambs were also in better demand and shewed an increase in value. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE CO. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report that a fair yarding came forward and was submitted to a good attendance of buyers. The quality of store sheep entered was much better than last week. Competition was noticeably better, particularly for ewe lambs. Fat sheep maintained at late rates. We quote:—Fat Sheep: Fat wethers, 16/-, 16/3 to 20/-; fat Southdown ewes, 7/9 to 11/-; fat b.f lambs. 18/- to 13/6. Store Sheep: Woolly wether lambs, 12/1, 12/6 to 13/1; good ewe lambs, 15/6 to 17/6; vull lambs, 9/4 to 12/-. Pigs: Weaners, 19/C to 2.3/-.
