Place potatoes in cold salted watei for about fifteen minutes before putding in the oven to bake, and you will find that they will bake in half the time. They will also become well flavoured with the salt in this time.

When the strip of felt around the carpet-sweeper becomes hard, tack a length of old bicycle inner tube over it. This will protect furniture and walls.
When using parsley for garnishing fried fish, dip the sprigs in boiling fat for a second or two and put aside for a few moments to harden. The sprigs will then be crisp, and the garnishing look more attractive.
When marking linen first write the name in soft lead pencil and then with the marking-ink. This prevents ink from running.
