Since its foundation in March. 1824. the Royal National Lifeboat Institution has been responsible for saving 60.00(1 Jives. Mr Rowland Hill, of Bedford, who has just reached his ninety-first year, is a descendant of Francis Wingate, the Earlington (Beds) magistrate who issued the warrant for John Bunyan's arrest for preaching at Earlington, and committed him to Bedford gaol.
