Your correspondent’s attention was drawn to a peculiar coating of light dust on windows of residences, the like of which has not been noticed before the present unsettled weather. Housewives who cleaned windows at the weekend were surprised last evening to find window panes covered with a light substance resembling ash and along with it a greasy substance, which was hard to remove. Even the heavy rain did not dislodge it; in fact it seemed to add more to the ash-like substance. Unseasonable Weather. The weather which is being experienced in the Wairarapa is abnormal for this time of the year. With the exception of similar conditions in 1912 old residents do remember such unseasonable weather, but not of such long duration. 'The conditions in Carterton yesterday were far from summer and bordered on late autumn.
