STUD RAM FAIR

WAIRARAPA SHEEP BREEDERS’ SALE

BIG BENCH OF BUYERS AT SOLWAY.

DEMAND FOR SOUTITDOWNS GOOD.

There was a large and representative attendance of buyers at the Wairarapa Stud Sheep Breeders’ twentyfirst annual stud ram and ewe fair, held at Solway Showgrounds today. The sale opened with stud Southdowns, of which the entry was in excess of last year. At the outset the demand for top-line rams was good and bidding was brisk.

; There was a definite tailing off in the demand for Southdowns as the. sale progressed and' it was apparent that buyers were operating within restricted limits, although they were prepared occasionally to open out for high quality animals. As in the past, Perry rams dominated the market. Sir William Perry; R. M. Perry and W. A. Perry Trust offered 40 rams, of which 22 were sold, under the hammer for an average price of just on 60 gns. Top price for Southdowns was 120 gns, secured by Perry’s, and also by Mr W. J. Gimblett, who incidentally sold two Southdowns for an average price of 105 gns. Prices up to the time of going to press were as follow, the rams all being 1-shear except where otherwise stated: — STUD SOUTHDOWNS. Account Sir William Perry, R. M. Perry and W, A. C.
