DANNEVIRKE SHOW

THE SHEEP CLASSES. In purebred sheep at the Dannevirke A. and P. Show on February 7 and 8there are natural condition classes in both Romneys and Southdowns. In the former section there is a points prize and also a fifteen guinea challenge cup for the best group of three Romney sheep, consisting of one 2-tooth, one 4tooth or over ram and one 2-tooth ewe, to be judged in a group. In the natural condition classes —eight in all —there is a ten guineas challenge cup for most points. In Southdowns there is an eight guineas challenge cup for most points, open only to local breeders, a gold medal for best two-tooth ram registered, in the flock book, and owned by a member of the society; also a cup for most points, open and natural condition, and there is also the Pioneer Cup for most points in both Romneys and Southdowns. In Lincolns there is a special class for best district bred lamb. In fat sheep there is a points prize and for the fat lambs a challenge cup for heaviest lambs, although in all classes lambs are specified as not to exceed 421bs freezing weight. The Young Farmers’ Club appears in the schedule for the first time, with three -classes for members of clubs—two for sheep, ewe hoggets, and fat lambs —and one for pigs—one bacon pig. These classes are only open to members of Young Farmers’ Clubs, and it is expected that they will be productive of keen competition. There are also five classes for fleece wool, two for baled hay and others, so that all classes of farmers are catered for. General entries close on January 24th with the show secretary. Box 38, Dannevirke.
