METHYLATED SPIRIT
THINGS TO DO WITH IT. A few drops of methylated spirit added to the water in which they are rinsed gives silk garments a good finish when they are ironed and helps to keep silk stockings from spotting with rain.
When piano keys need cleaning they should be wiped with a piece of clean old linen moistened with methylated spirit. This leaves the surface clean and glossy and cannot damage the keys. Black cloth coats, suits, or frocks that are showing signs of wear should be sponged with methylated spirit and water, in trie proportion of one part to three, and then pressed in the usual way.
When a coloured straw hat begins to look faded it should first be wiped with a piece of plush or velvet, to remove dust, and then brushed over with methylated spirit.
Scratched or worn places on coloured kid shoes may be glaz'ed over with matching sealing-wax dissolved in methylated spirit and applied with a soft brush.
