THE FITNESS CAMPAIGN
TT is most desirable that there should be a fully representative attendance at the meeting called by the Mayor of Masterton (Mr 'l'. Jordan) to consider the furtherance in this district of the campaign sponsored by the National Council of Physical Welfare ami Recreation. The flavor invites representatives, not only of sports bodies, but of recreational and entertainment organisations and of educational institutions to attend the meeting, which is to be held in the Municipal Social Hall. While the promotion of physical fitness is an essential object of the movement now being promoted throughout the Dominion, an organised effort is being made also to promote cultural development from the broadest standpoint. With additional time available for recreation, it becomes possible to pursue more hopefully than ever the ideal of a sound mind in a sound, body.
The movement as a whole is one which should awaken full sympathy and support in the Wairarapa. National plans are at present being shaped for the celebration throughout the Dominion, next month, of a Keep Fit Week. Prompt and energetic action will be necessary if Masterton and the Wairarapa are to take a full part in this commendable enterprise. A wide measure of discretion is to be left to the committees set up in each district. A good beginning should be made at the meeting on Wednesday evening. Support for an enterprise that has obviously strong claims to support will best, be given meantime, as has been suggested, bya full attendance on that occasion.
