ACCEPTANCES FOR FIRST DAY. LARGER FIELDS THAN USUAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Acceptances for the first day of the Wellington Racing Club's summer meeting show an increase of 42 on last year, the total being 137 for the six handicaps and the Apprentices Plate. The Cup field of 20 is an increase of six on last January, and this year the Telegraph Handicap shows an acceptance of 13 as against only seven last year. Ten remain in the Wellington Stakes. There are no surprises in connection with the Cup. Royal Chief. Mazir, Quadroon, and Lady Montana dropped out last night. The absence of Royal Chief is regretted, bu; w ; th Defaulter holding his place great interest will be taken in the event. The nonacceptors in the sprint are Gay Chou, Counterblast, Laughing Lass, Valantua. and Solaria.
